Success permeated throughout the Valley of the Sun as the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) welcomed 5,200 attendees to the 13th Annual National Conference & Career Expo from Nov. 7-9.
The conference theme, "Strategic Positioning: Grow People & Business to Take Flight," set the foundation for the Conference and the two-day Career Expo, as 230 corporate and academic sponsors convened at the Phoenix Civic Plaza Convention Center to recruit top talent.
The conference, whose Lead Sponsor was the Intel Corporation, launched several initiatives such as the Marketing Pavilion, the Conference Daily and the Mission Award. For the first time, Dell Computer sponsored the Marketing Case Competition, in which eight schools participated, and Emory University emerged as the winner, clinching not only the title, but also complimentary laptops and interviews with the corporate representatives.
Approximately $615,000 was awarded to 173 scholarship recipients who were honored in a special Scholarship Luncheon, which included an award ceremony for the top three $15,000 scholarship winners: Alfredo J. Botty, Coca-Cola Company Scholarship Recipient; Carlos Omar Gonzalez, Procter & Gamble Scholarship Recipient; and Maria del Pilar Rivera, PepsiCo Scholarship Recipient.
The Conference culminated in the presentation of NSHMBA's most prestigious honor, the Brillante Awards, to the six outstanding recipients: Intel Corporation, Corporation Recipient; McCombs School of Business at University of Texas, Educational Institution Recipient; Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Not-For-Profit Recipient; Angelo Figueroa, Managing Editor of People en Español, Corporate Executive Recipient; Salvador Gomez, President and CEO of Source One Management, Entrepreneur Recipient; and Raquel Santiago-Martinez, NSHMBA Member Recipient.
The 3-day event included a Career Expo, Career Development Seminars, Hispanic Leadership Plenary, Marketing Case Competition, Special Interest Workshops, Résumé Clinic, Scholarship Recipient's Luncheon, Brillante Awards Ceremony, and much more.
