Known as an “energetic, driven, and scrappy” leader, Karen’s commitment to excellence permeates all aspects of her professional career at a Fortune 14 company and volunteer work.
Karen Flores is a Product Director in the Consumer Solutions Group at Optum, a UnitedHealth Group company. At Optum, Karen is responsible for the strategic direction, financial management and operational execution of the Managed Infertility Program. This program provides comprehensive benefits and ensures the highest standard of Infertility care for over four million individuals.
Prior to joining Optum, Karen was a recruiter for an executive search firm in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area where she worked with financial leaders of Fortune 500 companies to place leading accounting and finance talent. She also held a district manager position with an international retailer having complete oversight of 6 stores.
Karen is the President of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter of NSHMBA, one of the largest chapters with over 800 members, 14 corporate sponsors, and 18+ board leaders. Karen joined the board in 2008 as Corporate Relations Chair, responsible for the chapter’s fundraising efforts. During her time as Corporate Relations chair, Karen developed a new fundraising model which was adopted by the chapter and has raised as much as $100K in one year. Current has also served as treasurer and EVP.
Karen holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management and an undergraduate degree in communications from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
In her free time, Karen enjoys reading, watching movies, and time at home in Minnesota with her husband Ryan and new baby, Sofia.
