NSHMBA Cincinnati Newsletter H2 '15

Cincinnati at Full Speed Ahead

Welcome to our newsletter! It’s almost unbelievable that we are more than halfway through the year. A lot of things are happening in Cincinnati at a very fast pace. We have had a great first half which we concluded on a high note with our Executive Perspective event, just a few blocks and days away from the All Star Game. For those of you with us that night, you can surely remember what a great time we had, how many doors were opened, and how many connections were made. For those of you who couldn’t be with us, I will only say it was another All Star night in the same week.

As we look into the second half of the year, we have a lot to look forward to, and we hope you do too. We have several very relevant, impactful events planned, and we are looking forward to seeing you step up, being a Leader, and making your mark in helping build a more diverse and welcoming region. Please make sure you look at our website to get the latest updates on these.

We, and our key partners like the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce and the "Diverse by Design" team, are looking for an unconventional type of leadership which will help shift paradigms, break molds, think outside the box, and truly unleash each other’s potential.

There is a lot happening in the Queen City these days, and we will continue to be front and center. The question is: will you?

Executive Perspective 2015

On Thursday, July16th, NSHMBA Cincinnati hosted our eighth annual Executive Perspective event at the Westin Downtown. This year's event brought together 7 leaders from 5 global organizations in one room for an opportunity to discuss, engage, network and learn. Over 150 area professionals gathered to meet the distinguished panelists, who represented the region's largest employers. "Listen, Learn, Lead in a Digital World" was the theme of night and a tremendous amount of insight was shared on implementing strategies for individual contributors as well as through company-wide initiatives. Panelists included: Carlos Amesquita, Chief Information Officer, The Hershey Company; Tim Massa, Group VP of Human Resources and Labor Relations, the Kroger Co.; Pam Rincones, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Fifth Third Bank; Nelson Vincent, Chief Information Office, University of Cincinnati. Mary Stagaman, VP of Regional Initiatives and Executive Director of Agenda 360 at Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber, and Reuben Shaffer, Chief Diversity Office at the Kroger Co. welcomed participants, while Kevin Dooley, Managing Director of Cincinnati and Dayton at Accenture emceed the event. A huge THANK YOU goes out to all who attended!

A Conversation on Jobs

On August 14th, NSHMBA Cincinnati, in partnership with Accenture and American Modern Insurance Group, hosted a unique roundtable discussion with local leaders of the Hispanic business community and U.S. Senator Rob Portman to discuss growing Ohio's economy and jobs. Shortly thereafter, Senator Portman included highlights of the event in his weekly news site, quoting  "I was pleased to meet with the NSHMBA Cincinnati Chapter and a distinguished group of Hispanic business leaders today. We had a positive discussion, and I look forward to continuing to work with NSHMBA and others as we help Hispanic professionals, entrepreneurs and students succeed in southwest Ohio".

The conversation focused on addressing the skills gap, workforce development and training. It is our hope that events such as these serve to bring light to the barriers to entry that currently exist, as well as the opportunities that can arise from leadership in action. We look forward to hosting many more soon!
