2012 Brillante FAQ

Brillante - FAQ

What are the 2012 Brillante categories?

BRILLANTE AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE – FOUNDER’S CIRCLE – individual (external nominations not accepted)
BRILLANTE AWARD FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EXCELLENCE – individual, non-profit, government, entrepreneur.

What is the nomination period?

The Brillante Awards nominations will begin on June 25 and close at 5 PM CST on July 19, 2012.

Who can submit a nomination?

Anyone can submit a nomination, however if you are currently serving as a Chapter Officer, Corporate Advisory Board  representative, on the Board of Directors, or NSHMBA staff, you can’t be nominated for any Brillante category. You are eligible to nominate yourself (except founders in the Founder’s Circle category). Note: you must receive permission from the individual or the organization you are nominating prior to nominating them.

What awards can a person or organization be nominated for?

Nominations are required for: Corporate Excellence, Educational Excellence, Member Excellence, & Community Service Excellence. The Founder’s Circle Award category will not be opened for external nominations.

Can I nominate an organization or a person who has already won a Brillante award in the past?

Organizations competing for the Corporate, Educational, or Community Service Award can only win once every five years. Thus, in order to be considered for 2012, an organization must not have won since 2008. Individuals who are Brillante winners for the following categories: Member Excellence, Community Service, or Founder’s Circle, are only eligible to win only once in a lifetime for the same category.

How are the winners chosen?

Nominations are judged using the criteria in the award categories section of our website. Judges are not affiliated in any way with the nominees that are being evaluated for the awards.

Do you have to be a NSHMBA member to win?

Yes, all individual award nominees must be active members (Associate, Premier, or Executive). Organizations that have been involved with NSHMBA and support the mission are encouraged to apply.

How do I write a good justification statement?

Make sure you address all the criteria in the award category, and include specific details and examples of your nominee’s accomplishments — the more specific, and the more examples (300 - 900 words) the better.

What benefits do Brillante award recipients receive?

Recipients will be highly recognized during the Brillante for Excellence Award Gala at NSHMBA’s 2012 Conference in Orlando, FL. In addition, winners receive a beautiful custom award, an online medallion to post on their website, two full conference registrations, hotel accommodations, recognition on the NSHMBA website, The Bottom Line NSHMBA’s newsletter, the NSHMBA magazine, and national press releases, and airfare (coach class) to conference.

Must winners be available to attend the Brillante ceremony?

Winners are strongly encouraged to attend. In the case that winners cannot attend, they must be able to send a representative to accept the award on their behalf.

What are the next steps after the nomination has been submitted?

Nominators must submit the online nomination and justification statement during the nomination registration process. Nominators must then submit a photo (if an individual nomination), and/or logo (if an organization nomination) to before the nomination deadline.

How many nominees are required in order for the category to be confirmed?

There must be at least three nominees in a category. If there are 2 or less nominations submitted, the category will not be awarded that year.

What conference provisions are there for Brillante awardees?

They receive two full registrations, a beautiful custom award, and hotel accommodations.

*Individuals currently serving as NSHMBA Chapter Officers, Board of Directors, Corporate Advisory Board representatives, and NSHMBA Staff are ineligible to be nominated or selected as a Brillante Award Recipient within the year of service.
