Case Study Competition to support local Hispanic Businesses

 

The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) South Florida Chapter, Barry University and other South Florida universities are sponsoring a case study competition among local MBA students to help Hispanic-owned businesses in Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties succeed. 

 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE?

    • Participants must be current MBA students
    • Teams will consist of up to four participants
    • All participants must be NSHMBA members (free Associate Membership at:  nshmba.org)
    • Send team inquires and submissions to events@southflorida.nshmba.org along with a current resume for each team member.

 

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

    • Cash prize up to $5,000 to be shared by the winning team
    • Students will develop employability skills by acquiring business consulting experience   
    • MBA students will "give back” to the local community by assessing and recommending ways Hispanic-owned businesses can work more efficiently

 

WHEN IS THE COMPETITION?

    • Case teams due on September 3rd, 2013
    • Completed case studies due October 1st, 2013

 

HOW DOES THE COMPETITON WORK?

    • Students will select a business and will propose a three-year business plan to increase the performance of the organization in a sustainable way.
    • The business must be a startup Hispanic-owned business or small to medium size existing Hispanic-owned business with a maximum of $5 million in revenue and no more than 50 employees that demonstrates a need for free consulting services
    • The case study must incorporate the SME Toolkit (us.smetoolkit.org), which was developed by IBM Corporation and the international Finance Corporation (IFC)
    • A team of professors from South Florida universities will review the case studies and announce the winner based on the quality of the written case, originality, viability of recommendations, and the quality of case presentations
