Dr. Stephen Klineberg, Keynote Speaker
A graduate of Haverford College, with an M.A. from the University of Paris and a Ph.D. from Harvard, Stephen Klineberg is a Professor of Sociology at Rice University. In 1982, he and his students initiated the annual “Kinder Institute Houston Area Survey,” now well into its fourth decade of tracking the remarkable changes in the demographic patterns, economic outlooks, experiences and beliefs of Harris County residents. The recipient of twelve major teaching awards, Dr. Klineberg was featured in a documentary film on the first 30 years of the Houston surveys and is completing a series of reports on this ongoing research, while also serving as co-director of Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research. He will discuss the findings from the surveys presented in his report, which “seeks to identify the most important forces that demonstrably underlie and help to account for the wide disparities amount Harris County residents in their self-reported health and well-being”.

Peggy Payne, Closing Speaker

She is the co-lead for the California Industry Collaboration Effort (ICE) Cultural and Linguistic Workgroup and the co-author of Better Communication, Better Care: Provider Tools to Care for Diverse Populations.
