Featured Guest Speaker:

Luke Maze
Quality Assurance Manager
Capital One

Luke Maze began his career in manufacturing, but as factories were being sent overseas, he jumped-ship into the world of software development.  And when *that* industry was being outsourced, Luke entered the Dot Com craze.  When that bubble burst, Luke moved into shipping, but that Fortune 100 company decided to fold their US Operations.  Then Luke tried his hand in the Financial industry.  And, although there was an economic meltdown that decimated the entire US economy, Luke happened to land at Capital One during this phase of his career.  And Capital One has actually weathered the storm!  Looks like the financial industry has weathered Luke’s arrival as well!

Specifically at Capital One, Luke is a Quality Assurance Manager, overseeing the validation of hardware and software that is the engine of Capital One’s success.  Banking is something that used to be done face-to-face, in a branch, with a banker.  But now, transactions that are not taken care of *over* the phone, through a voice recognition unit, are mostly done *on* the phone, through a smartphone app.  Luke’s testers make sure that the software does what the software is supposed to do.

At Arizona State University in the late 80s, Luke was founder of El Concilio, the Hispanic Coalition.  At Intel in the 90s, Luke was co-founder of the Intel Latino Network.  In the 2000s, Luke was founder of DHL’s Arizona Hispanic Network.  But at Capital One, in this the second decade of the new millennium, the Hispanic Network *preceded* Luke!  And he is therefore able to focus on the one area he’s most passionate about, recruitment of qualified Hispanic candidates into corporate America, as the Recruiting Lead for the Capital One Hispanic Employee Network.
