On May 17, 2009, NSHMBA's Summer Enrichment Program was aired on Univision Chicago. Check out the segment!
To view the segment, please click here.
The Summer Enrichment Program offers local high school students a sneak peek to the college environment and college-style courses, seeks to promote a higher education. The time commitment from participants is six weeks during the summer months, but the lessons learned are invaluable. Like every year, this year’s program recruited twenty-four students from various city high schools to participate in an enriching experience that may even change their lives.
The Impact The uniqueness of the program lies in that it motivates students to take their talents to the next level-college! And as an added bonus participants also make life-long friends that serve as their support network during the challenging college years. Below are testimonials from SEP alumni:
“Thank you very much for the amazing opportunity to attend the Summer Enrichment Program. I loved it because it is a program that allows you to do things not just read about them.”- Rocio Mercado, 2007 SEP Participant, Eisenhower H.S., Blue Island, IL
“I really enjoyed the program because it allowed me to network and meet new people. Plus, the program exposed students to different career choices and encouraged them to think outside of the box and become open minded and explore different opportunities they otherwise would not have thought to consider.” -Christian Diaz de Leon, 2007 SEP Participant.
“SEP made a tremendous impact in my life by providing the resources necessary to help guide me in choosing the best college for me. I especially loved learning more about the Latino culture because it was information that none of us were learning in school.” –Illiana Valladarez, SEP alum and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign graduate.
