Welcome to South Florida!
Message from Chapter President
By being true to our history of giving back to the community the South Florida chapter of NSHMBA has been able to match local talent with top companies in addition to contributing over $18,000 to scholarship programs. Our many achievements are reflected through receiving the 2nd place chapter of the year award for 2008 out of 32 chapters. Our intention is to continue raising the bar through maintaining activities and improving our 4 organizational pillars: Education, Professional Development, Leadership Development, Research. We urge you to get more involved with NSHMBA South Florida Chapter and see all the great possibilities that our membership brings.

NSHMBA South Florida presents the Community “Give-Back Circle”
Case Study Competition to support local Hispanic Businesses
(February 21, 2012) The NSHMBA South Florida Chapter, Barry University and other South Florida universities are sponsoring a case study competition among local MBA students to help Hispanic-owned businesses in Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties succeed. The purpose of the competition is to encourage MBA students to “give back” to the local community by providing their best consulting skills to assess and recommend ways that Hispanic-owned businesses can work more efficiently. Students will identify local businesses that could benefit from this free consulting service and will integrate IBM Corporation’s SME Toolkit (us.smetoolkit.org) as part of their case study.
Students will select a new business start up or existing business that can demonstrate a need for the free consulting services and they will propose a three-year business plan to increase the performance of the organization in a sustainable way.
Student Consulting Team Requirements:
- Participants must be current MBA students
- Teams will consist of up to four participants
- All participants must be NSHMBA members (enrollment is free at nshmba.org/becomeamember)
- Students will identify businesses that meet the following criteria:
- Hispanic-owned business or Hispanic-serving social enterprise without resources to hire consulting services
- Small- to medium-sized organization with a maximum of $5 million in revenue and no more than 50 employees
- Students will develop an actionable business plan that directly impacts the organization’s performance and fosters sustainable growth. Resources can be found on the SME Toolkit web site, which will be incorporated in the case study
- Students should use the SME Toolkit as part of the case study. The SME Toolkit was developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and IBM Corporation. The SME Toolkit is designed especially to support minority-owned businesses with essential business tools.
- Completed case studies are due March 10, 2012.
A team of professors from South Florida universities will review the case studies and announce the winner based on the quality of the written case, originality and viability of recommendations, and the quality of case presentations. The winning entry will be eligible for a modest scholarship provided by NSHMBA with support from Barry University and other South Florida universities.
