
NSHMBA Foundation Scholarship Program Guidelines
The National Society of Hispanic MBA Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist qualified Hispanics to pursue MBAs. Scholarships are offered each year for full- and part-time study at an accredited (AACSB) institution of the student's choice. Applcation Period Closed for 2013.
Applicants to the NSHMBA Scholarship Program must:
- Be a United States Citizen or legal permanent resident
- Be of Hispanic heritage
- Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) OR have a minimum 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) in combination with two years of full-time work experience.
- Have a NSHMBA membership - Member ID required. (Applicants who are not currently NSHMBA members can become an associate member for free. Click on this NSHMBA Membership link.)
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a Master's Degree program in Management/Business no later than fall at a college in the United States or Puerto Rico accredited by AACSB. Click here to view the complete list of AACSB Accredited Schools.
Awards range from $2,500 - $10,000. The top five (5) full-time applicants who demonstrate financial need will receive an award for $10,000.
Recipients will receive:
- Premier NSHMBA membership during award year (if student is not already a member) valued at $250
- Complimentary full conference registration and up to $250 travel and accommodations reimbursement for the NSHMBA Annual Conference & Career Expo. (Each student recipient must volunteer at conference a total of four (4) hours and attend the NSHMBA Scholars Meeting and NSHMBA Scholars Luncheon in order to receive these benefits.)
- Each student recipient(s) also receives a special invitation to the scholarship luncheon during conference which honors and recognizes our scholarship recipients
- Conference preparation webinars on building your resume, elevator speech and best practices at conference Access to scholarship corporate donors to internship and job opportunities
- Recognition on the NSHMBA website and other materials as a NSHMBA Scholar
- Connection with local NSHMBA Chapter(s)
- Inclusion of the recipient’s resume on the NSHMBA Scholars resume database to all top corporate donors
- Access to scholarship corporate donors to internship and job opportunities
Awards are renewable for up to one year or until a Master’s Degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient meeting the following requirements:
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) in current degree program.
- Complete the first term participation requirements to receive your second term scholarship funds. Complete the annual renewal participation requirements if renewal for the second year.
- Maintain active NSHMBA membership status and are expected to be NSHMBA ambassadors. Recipients must show involvement with the organization through the NSHMBA local Chapter by utilizing the following opportunities:
- Attend or volunteer with a local NSHMBA chapter
- Serve as an officer or committee member in their local chapter
- Attend to NSHMBA Annual Conference & Career Expo
- Drive the mission of NSHMBA and develop the pipeline on their campus
- Drive NSHMBA sponsorship and membership efforts
- Drive participation to NSHMBA Annual Conference & Career Expo
- Other Hispanic orientated community/business school events may be substituted if a NSHMBA chapter is not located within 50 miles
First Term Participation Verification:
Information will be sent to recipients and chapters in early November. Recipients must complete/participate in two (2) events/activities by November 15, 2013. Failure to complete the required participation will result in forfeiture of award for the second term and the student will not be eligible for annual renewal of the scholarship.
Annual Renewal:
Awards are renewable for up to one year or until a Master’s Degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient meeting the following requirements:
• Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) in current degree program.
• Complete the first term participation requirements to receive your second term scholarship funds.
• Complete the annual renewal application by the deadline date
Information will be sent to eligible recipients in December with the second installment check. Recipients must complete/participate in one (1) additional event/activity by May 15, 2014. All new materials must be sent to Scholarship management Services no later than April 30, 2014. Failure to return required materials by this date will result in forfeiture of award.
Each year the online application period is generally March 1st - April 30th. Interested students must submit an online application and then mail all supporting documentation to Scholarship Management Services by postmarked deadline of April 30th, 2013:
- All undergraduate and graduate official transcripts (grade reports are not acceptable). Online transcripts must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours earned for each course, and the term in which each course was taken.
- Two completed recommendation forms from professors, advisors, NSHMBA chapter officers or employers addressing current academic achievement, personal qualities, potential for future success and contributions to the community. The standardized recommendation form must be used.
Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by Scholarship Management Services.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic achievement, work experience, personal statement of goals and aspirations, community service, letters of recommendation, and NSHMBA ambassadorship essay. Financial need will be considered for applicants competing for the $10,000 awards. Instructions for completing the Financial Section of the application are included below.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services. In no instance does any officer or employee of NSHMBA play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Applicants will be notified in late June via email. Recipients will also receive notification via U.S. mail. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
Scholarship Management Services processes scholarship payments on behalf NSHMBA. Payments are made in equal installments on August 15 and the second on December 30. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are made payable to the school.
Please Note: Recipients will be required to actively participate in two (2) Chapter or National activities/events in the fall semester (by November 15) in order to be eligible your second installment in December. NSHMBA Chapter official will verify participation. See First Term Participation Verification information above.

Recipients are expected to be NSHMBA ambassadors. They are also required to notify Scholarship Management Services of any change in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send an official transcript and financial aid award letter when requested.
Recipients must also continue an active membership status with NSHMBA and show active participation with the organization as detailed in the awards section above.
Scholarship recipients are strongly encouraged but not required to:

- Volunteer at an on campus event to prepare fellow students for the NSHMBA Annual Conference & Career Expo
- Other Hispanic orientated community/business school events may be substituted if a NSHMBA chapter is not located within 50 miles

NSHMBA reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time, including termination of the program.
